What you get

One survey, one fixed quote, no guessing

A solar system is two decisions: how many panels the roof and your bills justify, and how big a battery your evenings need. A back-to-back terrace in Armley, a 1930s semi in Roundhay and a detached house in Wetherby get three different answers, which is why the price is fixed after a survey rather than guessed from a photo.

Solar Stash takes your enquiry, calls you back to check your home suits solar, and books the survey. A local MCS-certified installer measures up, designs the system and sends a fixed written quote. If solar does not stack up for your house, you hear that instead.

Included in every quote

Free home survey
A local MCS-certified installer measures the roof, checks the loft, the consumer unit and your bills. Half an hour to an hour, no obligation.
Fixed written quote
Panels, inverter, battery, scaffolding, electrical work and the paperwork, itemised. The price does not move on the day.
Panels sized to your usage
A 3.5 kW system for a typical semi, more or fewer where the roof and the bills justify it. Never the biggest system that fits.
Battery sized to your evenings
Usually 5 kWh to start, bigger for an EV, a heat pump or a large family. Expandable later on most systems.
MCS certificate
Issued on completion by the installer. It is what your export tariff and home insurer ask for.
0% VAT
Zero-rated for VAT on qualifying home installations until 31 March 2027, then 5%. The rate follows the invoice date.
The numbers for West Yorkshire

What a system makes here, and where the saving comes from

2,678 kWh

a year from 3.5 kW

850 kWh per kWp for the north of England (PVGIS), on a typical roof.

26.32p

a unit you no longer buy

The Oct to Dec 2026 price cap rate. Every unit you use from the roof is a unit you do not buy at this price.

8p

a unit you export without a battery

Which is why a working household with an empty house all day gets far more from a battery than from extra panels.

Indicative, as of 3 November 2026. Assumes 850 kWh per kWp a year, a 0.9 roof factor, 26.32p import (the Ofgem cap rate) and 8p export. Your figures are confirmed at the survey.

Why the battery matters

The saving is in how much you use, not how much you make

A roof in Leeds makes most of its electricity between ten and four. If the house is empty then, that power is sold to the grid for about 8p a unit and bought back at tea time for 26.32p. A battery closes that gap.

Without a battery a working household typically uses 30 to 40 per cent of what the roof makes. With one, around 70 per cent. On a 3.5 kW system that is the difference between a few hundred units kept and most of them, every year, for as long as the battery lasts.

Already have panels? See how adding a battery works

No battery
Roughly a third of the roof's output used in the house. The rest exported at about 8p.
5 kWh battery
Daytime surplus stored and used in the evening. Around 70 per cent self-use for most working households.
Bigger battery
For an EV, a heat pump or a time-of-use tariff that charges cheaply overnight. Sized at the survey, not sold on the day.
Backup in a power cut
Possible when wired for it at installation. Tell us at the survey if it matters; it changes the design.

Figures as of 3 November 2026. Unit rate from the Ofgem price cap for 1 October to 31 December 2026; export at the 8p the calculator assumes. The 0% VAT rate on panels and batteries ends on 31 March 2027: what that means for your timing.

Questions about solar and batteries in West Yorkshire

Not here? The number at the top reaches a person who can answer it.

How much do solar panels and a battery cost in Leeds?
It depends on the roof, the scaffolding, the consumer unit and the battery size, which is why we do not publish a price list. A typical 3.5 kW system with a 5 kWh battery for a semi-detached house is quoted in writing after a free survey, with 0% VAT already off until 31 March 2027. The quote is fixed: the price the installer surveys at is the price you pay.
What size system do I need?
Most semis in Leeds take about 3.5 kW (2,678 kWh a year here), a detached house about 4 kW (3,060 kWh) and a terrace about 2.5 kW (1,913 kWh). The survey measures the roof and reads your bills, then sizes the system to what you actually use rather than what fits.
Do I need scaffolding, and is it included?
Almost always yes for a pitched roof, and it is included in the fixed quote so there is no extra bill on the day. The survey checks access, pavement licences for terraces that open straight onto the street, and whether the scaffold needs to go up a neighbour’s side.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels in West Yorkshire?
Usually not. Roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development in England provided the panels do not stick up more than 200 mm from the roof and the property is not listed. Conservation areas (parts of Headingley, Roundhay, Saltaire, Holmfirth and others) have extra rules on roofs facing the road, and listed buildings always need consent. We check before the survey, not after the scaffolding is booked.
Does solar work in winter in Leeds?
Yes, just less. Panels run on daylight, not heat. A 3.5 kW system here makes about 2,678 kWh a year, with roughly three-quarters of it between April and September. In December it still covers lights, the fridge and the router on most days; the battery then charges overnight on a cheaper tariff to carry the evening.
How long does the installation take?
One day for most homes, sometimes two with a battery and a new consumer unit. Scaffolding goes up a day or two before and comes down a few days after. From survey to switch-on is typically a few weeks, longer in the run-up to the VAT deadline, which is why we book surveys early.
What is the Smart Export Guarantee?
A payment from your electricity supplier for every unit you export. Rates vary from a few pence to about 15p; the calculator assumes 8p. You need an MCS certificate to claim it, which every system we book comes with. With a battery you export less and use more at 26.32p, which is usually the better deal.
Who installs the system and who do I call afterwards?
A local MCS-certified installer. Your quote names the company and its MCS number, and the warranties are in your name at handover. For anything afterwards you ring Solar Stash on 07442 511817 and we chase the installer for you.
