What you get

The cheapest fuel you will ever buy, if it is set up right

An EV doing 8,000 miles a year uses about 2,500 kWh. On the standard rate that is roughly £658. Charged overnight on an EV tariff at around 7p it is £175. Charged partly from your own roof in summer it is less again. Most people in Leeds plug in on a driveway or a shared yard, and the charger is a small part of the cost: how it is set up is most of the saving.

We check your parking, your consumer unit and whether you have or want solar, then book the survey. A local MCS-certified installer fits the charger, certifies it and pairs it with your panels or your tariff before leaving. Quoted in writing after the survey, with the grant applied for first where you qualify.

EV charger questions from West Yorkshire

Not here? The number at the top reaches a person who can answer it.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Leeds?
Three things set the price: how far the cable runs from your consumer unit to where the car parks, whether your earthing arrangement needs upgrading, and whether the charger goes in on the same visit as solar or a battery, which saves a call-out. We quote in writing after a free survey rather than publish a price. If you rent or own a flat, the chargepoint grant takes up to £500 off (details below).
Is there a grant for an EV charger?
For some homes. The OZEV chargepoint grant pays 75% of the cost up to £500 per socket if you rent your home or own a flat and have your own off-street parking space. Landlords can claim £500 per socket for their properties. Owner-occupied houses with a driveway get nothing. The scheme runs to 31 March 2027 and the charger must not be fitted until OZEV has confirmed your eligibility, so the application goes in first. The installer applies on your behalf; if the installer we book is not authorised for the grant, we say so before you commit to anything.
Can I install an EV charger myself?
Not legally, for a wall charger. It needs its own circuit from the consumer unit, which is notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations in England, and it has to be a smart charger meeting the 2021 regulations. A qualified electrician fits it, tests it and gives you the certificate. A three-pin "granny" cable is the only DIY option, and at 2.3 kW it takes a day and a half to fill a family EV.
Which charger works with my car?
Any Type 2 charger fits every EV sold in the UK since about 2018, Tesla included. The differences are the speed (7 kW is the home standard: a family EV filled overnight), whether the app can schedule charging into cheap hours, and whether it can follow your solar. The survey matches the charger to the car and the house.
Can it charge from my solar panels?
Yes, if the charger has a solar mode. It watches what your panels are exporting and sends that into the car, topping up from the grid only when the sun is not enough. On a summer weekday a 4 kW system in Leeds can put 15 to 20 miles into the car for nothing. With a battery as well, the survey works out which gets the surplus first.
How long does the installation take?
Usually half a day. Most homes need a new circuit from the consumer unit and sometimes an upgraded earthing arrangement, both included in the quote. A very old consumer unit occasionally needs replacing first, which the survey tells you before anyone turns up.
Can I have a charger if I rent?
Yes, with your landlord's written permission, and renters are one of the groups the grant still covers. Often the landlord applies through the landlord grant instead and the charger stays with the property.
Can my business claim for chargers at work?
Yes. The Workplace Charging Scheme pays 75% of the cost up to £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets, for businesses, charities and public bodies with their own off-street parking, until 31 March 2027. It pairs well with commercial solar on the same roof: the vans charge on daytime generation. Your accountant confirms the tax treatment.
